In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”(1 Corinthians 11:25).

A new covenant.

Because the old covenant, well, it was never going to work.

Don’t get me wrong–I’m not saying that God’s original plan failed.

No, the old covenant, the Mosaic Law, did exactly what God intended it to do: it pointed out Man’s utter helplessness in the face of his own sin.

Beloved, the blood of lambs and goats and doves and cattle would never do more than put a bandaid over a mortal wound

and buy us time

until the next sin,

which was always right around the corner.

We needed a new covenant

a perfect sacrifice

Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.
