Instead you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers (1 Corinthians 6:8).
Think about it: if there are lawsuits between brothers in Christ, that means that brothers in Christ are doing to each other things that merit lawsuits.
Simple enough logic, but it hadn’t really clicked in my brain before.
Paul has talked before about being in the world, yet not of it. Here’s another example. The people of the world cheat each other and do wrong to each other, because they are looking out for themselves at any cost.
We are not the people of the world.
We are the people of God.
We are called, not to put ourselves ahead of others, but to put others ahead of us.
“The last shall be first,” and all that.
So how, Paul wonders, are situations arising that even require going to court?
