  • One-a-Day Tuesday, 12/23/14

    number 1For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

    We’ll be back to Isaiah tomorrow.  I’m taking this detour because today marks the sixteenth birthday of my children.

    Yep, plural.  Twins…too much fun.

    Anyway, thinking about my kids always makes me think about this verse.

    You parents out there—you know what I‘m talking about.

    When I look back over the last sixteen years, and I consider all that these two people mean to me, the thought of giving them, the way God gave his Son…

    Yeah…nope.  Not gonna happen.  I’m just not big enough.

    Strong enough

    Loving enough

    I’m just not enough.

    I guess that’s reason #5725 to be glad I’m not God.

    As we head into the home stretch before Christmas, let’s remember that Silent Night is only half of the story.  The manger is how he came to us.

    The cross is why.

    Wow, we really are Beloved, aren’t we?

  • Tradition

    traditionIt’s a powerful thing.

    And like any powerful thing, tradition is full of potential benefits, but also fraught with danger.

    Kinda like nuclear energy.

    Or drone surveillance.

  • Many, Many Candles

    Part of this year's twenty. Geez, I'm getting old.

    It’s birthday season, and that is always a dangerous time for me.  Not only is there the fire hazard, there is the potential for the Crisis to rear its ugly, balding head. You know exactly what I mean.  Men look at each birthday as a yardstick, measuring where we are in life against where our friends are, where our colleagues are, or—most dangerous of all—where we thought we would be by now.
